Join both high school and undergraduate students in class to become immersed in college life and get a head start on your college career before finishing high school!  In Summer College, you choose from CUA’s freshman-level courses and take classes with college students.

Our program will help in your transition into higher education by allowing you to experience the pace and challenge of college courses under a guided and nurturing environment. Students will receive support from all of CUA’s resources including the Writing and Counseling Centers.

Benefits:

• Credits earned at Catholic University this summer apply toward your college education. Choose from pre-requisite or distribution courses, which will later transfer and count toward your undergraduate degree.

• By taking a couple of classes at Catholic this summer, you can reduce your first semester load in college. Your first semester in college is a time when you are adjusting to a new environment, as well as to the challenge of living away from home and still excelling in your studies. By taking a class or two this summer, you will not fall behind if you reduce your academic load that first semester.

• Strengthen your college application by taking a college course before finishing high school! Select your courses carefully, in consultation with your high school teachers and counselors, to show your academic forte.

If students have completed the tenth grade with a grade of B or better in college prep courses, they are encouraged to apply to the Catholic University of America’s Summer College program.

Tuition: $740 per credit hour or $2220 for a 3 credit course

Application fee: $25

One-time records fee: $45

LION DRUMMERS WORLD PERCUSSION SEMINAR

For students in grades 4–12

July 21–July 25, 2008

Director: Luis Garay

The Seminar will be in the Ward building in John Paul Hall and the percussion room 221.

Want to be part of a dynamic performing ensemble? Excitement, energy, and inspiration are the soul of this program. There is plenty of opportunity for individual creativity and spontaneity enthusiastically provided by master instructor, Luis Garay. He helps his students appreciate the passion and inspiration of the drum and experience the joy of rhythm and the fun of creating music through Afro-Latin Rock, Jazz and African World percussion.

The seminar is open to students from grades 4 through 12 and college students who play a percussion instrument. The seminar is looking for enthusiastic, young drummers and percussion players who have talent and potential, both those who are preparing for a career as professional musicians as well as those students who love to play drums or percussion instruments for fun and enrichment. Participants will improve their percussion skills through this fun and exciting week of percussion. In this exhilarating class, everyone will get to play in the groove, progressing from basics to more sophisticated rhythms, and finally to ensemble literature as they learn to converse in the "universal language" of music. There will be three performing ensembles according to the student's level and age.
